I do a purge every decade or two. I’ve done some post purges on my old LJ, and I’m sure I’ll do some on my newer DW at some point. I’ve abandoned many a planner app over the years and whatever their contents were. I even lost a few years worth of 750 Words journaling (a couple million words) when I purged that, which I sort of regret now only because I’m using it again and I don’t have a free founder account anymore. But all the stuff in it? I didn’t need that anymore.
I didn’t have many pen and paper records from before 2014 but much of what I had I don’t have anymore so I imagine I must have shredded them at some point. From around 2014*, I have amassed a ton of paper journals/planners (and longhand written fiction) and they are all stuffed into various drawers and such in my office. I do need to go through them at some point, though, as I’m pretty much out of space.
(My life went through a series of major upheavals around 2012-16 in which many things were lost or purposely discarded/destroyed until the remains of my life fit into a tiny corner of a shared 20 foot container and I moved to a new country.)
