I'm the same. I prefer it to lie flat which is why I mostly end up liking spiral bound best.

I am also probably a weirdo in that I don't intend to keep most of what I'm writing in the journal or the planner. For me, I tend to throw it all away when I'm done with it or tear out the page when the to-do list is finished.

The journal I just started is the first one I've done in years with the intention of keeping.
