Decorating your journal/planner

When do you decorate your pages? Do you do that in advance, during writing on an actual page or afterwards, when all of the writing is done? What supplies do you enjoy using (stickers, markers, watercolours, stamps etc.)?
Do you use tip-ins?

I use stickers in my journal. Most of the time, I decorate the pages after. The stickers may or may not related to what I wrote. Sometimes, though, I'll decorate while the pages are blank, mostly when there's a specific arrangement I feel like creating.

From my one-week long experience I know there are three main ways:

1) pretty painting of actual stuff
2) weird shapes, spirals, lines etc.
3) "I'm just plopping the colours I like on the page"

I paste in pictures, draw, and add stickers both before and during the actual writing. I like adding interesting pictures or cut out words because they often inspire me to write more interesting things.

I like to sketch with a fountain pen, usually my cat. Sometimes humans, but drawing my cat is the most fun.

I use pretty washi tape to separate off different days in my bullet journal. Right now I have a washi tape that has pictures of cats. (Do you sense a theme...?)

I also use stickers in pretty patterns or shapes to mark special events or good news.

Mostly stickers and doodles, but in a style that's called 'functional' planning - basically, I might put a glasses sticker where I have an optometrist appointment, or an iPod sticker for a podcast I'm listening to, at least in my own planner.

Now that I've switched to a BuJo, I still use stickers, but also crayons and colour pencils, along with hand lettering, to make things interesting.

I doodle a lot, but more because I'm a doodler and my planner is Paper In Front Of Me than because of any greater instagram-worthy purpose. I like stickers sometimes too.

I sketch a lot. Mostly flowers, sometimes other things, but usually with a pencil or a pen, whatever I'm using. No real reason, I just sketch flowers a lot.

I do some doodling, very simple stuff.

I do like stickers and washi tape, but I put them down after the fact or as part of an arrangement I've conceptualized.

Doodling is for fun :) Posting your doodles on instagram has much lower priority than having fun with drawing them :)
