“Habit” Tracking

After seeing how author V.E. Schwab does her habit tracking, I was inspired to make my own:

(Yes, I write in a funny little shorthand.)
On the top lefthand margin I have a list of activities I’d like to do on a regular basis. A few things on the list - Gardened, Walked, Journaled, Admin, Quality Time, Comm(unity), etc. If I do them in some capacity on the day, I check it off. I don’t aim for every day for most of them. It some ways, it’s about temperature. Have I not had quality time with my partner or son in a few days? Need to fix that. Have I not crafted or journaled in a few days? No wonder I’m losing my mind! Have I not walked in a few days? Get those hiking boots on!
In V.E. Schwab’s version, she has things like “didn’t have more than 2 alcoholic drinks” “drank 8 glasses of water.” So it’s very flexible to one’s needs.
As you might see, when I found another topic I wanted to add (like Community), I just added it and started tracking from there.
The bottom section is work-related and tracks “Deep Work”* (focus) hours in which I get my work assignments done without the distractions of Slack/email/Web-surfing/etc. For that, I aim for 4 hours a day without distractions. I may, on the next chart, change it to a different time increment (like half an hour per square) as full hours can be hard to fit in during some of my team’s sprint cycles, I haven’t decided yet.
I think at the end of April I’m going to skip to a fresh page so I can see the full month on the page.
I’m awful on following through when it comes to tracking “metrics” of any sort, and this one has been working well for me, so I thought I’d share!
*As per the book Deep Work by Cal Newport.
