In 2024, I decided to start reading published books again, instead of long-form fanfic downloaded from AO3, because I needed more of a challenging read than fanfic provides. To stay motivated for 2025, I'm participating in a Book Bingo challenge. All of the above led me to decide that I want to start a journal dedicated to my reading.

And I don't want anything digital, otherwise, my Goodreads list would be adequate.

I've looked at some that people have posted here, and trying to figure out what I want to do. I think I want a bigger size that my A5 bullet journal, and I think I want to do less hand-drawn art that what I put in my bujo. Maybe more scrapbook-y and less time-consuming. I definitely want to do something like print out the book covers on sticker paper.

What type of information do you include? How do you sequence the books? Do you have a daily reading log or something similar?

I broke my ankle, had surgery, and am now on 13 different medications that need to be taken at different intervals and different times. I can't keep up with it.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a medication tracker?

I've looked at a few templates, but the ones I've found seem to be for normal, routine meds that a person is on long-term. Not this chaotic mass of pill bottles I have.

I'm way behind on posting these (like, I'm currently working on spring spreads).

First up, my seasonal spread with book quote:

Next up a book that should be recognizable based on the art by the author:

I printed the month name using the 'Ringbearer' font. ^_~ I used to read The Simarillion through The Return of the King every winter break, hence my association of The Hobbit with December.

Next is January and an extremely obscure book, but one that I adored as a child:

The author's second book is much better known and was turned into a movie, but I liked this one better. I don't know if anyone can tell based on the spread what book it is.

the title )

For February, I chose The Call of the Wild:

I'm getting ready for next year's bullet journal - I was thinking about doing illuminated capitals for each month, or perhaps movies. I'm also open to suggestions!

Hi all! I've decided to keep a reading journal this year (my first time doing it!) and I posted some thoughts about and pictures of my setup at my dw journal. I've also made sure to include credit to all of the journaling peeps who inspired me during this process <3

I'm using an A5 dot grid notebook from Babadorky (Brazilian artist), a mix of black Faber Castell Xtreme Fine 0.7 and 1.0mm pens, and all of the pastel color highlighters and brush pens I had around.

Note: no photos cause I can't figuer out imgur besides icons :(

I wanted to start writing stuff down more on actual paper cause I like how it feels. I know I can't for the life of me keep stuff to one topic, so the notebook I bought will be used to dot down general ideas for creative projects & similar topics (basically give myself the freedom to both write down incoherant thoughts & doodle in it & stuff).

I bought a notebook, some stickers & washi-tape (I actually wanted stickers for my diary, but also I just like stickers). I'm gonna start brainstorming on some ideas in my head & see if I can make this journal something fun for me to look at ^_^

Here is a post listing materials for 2025. They aren't things I make or sell, just a selection of popular options for people who prefer bound, premade items to printables or refillables.

So, my partner ordered a Hemlock & Oak planner and asked me if I wanted anything while he was ordering, and I had not decided what I was going to do yet for next year and saw the "traveler's notebook"-sized journals, thought they were pretty, and decided I could use one as a planner. And then I got it in my hands and realized...

It's enormous. (Photos under cut) )

Hi everyone! I got into physical journaling (and stickers!) pretty recently and am very excited to find this comm!

I like using my journal to document what I'm reading/watching and to log my language learning when I encounter new vocabulary, but I'm often too lazy to sit down and update it...

Here are some assorted pages from my journal (currently using a Laconic planner) so far! Images are mostly hotlinked from my Bluesky account because I'm lazy, so I hope they display fine!

Here's a few more spreads from my book theme for 2024-205 in my bullet journal.

First is July, featuring My Father's Dragon. If you saw the movie, ignore it. The book is much more charming and clever.

Next up is August with The Leafmen and the Brave Good Bugs, also much better than the movie.

And finally, my spread to welcome Autumn, with a quote:

I already have my winter art in mind.

I enjoyed having a year-long theme in my bujo last year, so I decided I would do it again this year. The theme for the year is books, specifically children's books.

This is the first day of my new bujo year, so here are the first few spreads:

Hey, hello!! I wanted to share my new journal I just started and I'm also a new member. ^^; Long time user of journals though. Without further ado, I bought this journal at 8pxl.

Sorry for the terrible quality pictures. I have a cheap phone. But! I love their art in general and jumped at the chance to buy the journals when they made the art on them. They do have some more in their shop but I don't think they have released a hard-binding cover like this one in a while. I have one other one besides this one and I do plan on buying those other ones on their shops to at least see if I can use them.

The pages are blank which was kind of surprising. I don't mind that so much but I do prefer grid. I was going to use it at that point for an art journal but I then found out the pages are really thin. My G2 Pilot Pens are even sort of heavy for it. So, I can't make messes in it with paints or anything much else for that matter besides pencils. I was a little bit disappointed in that but I can make do with it. :3 Besides, I have plenty of mixed media sketch books for that. I'm thinking this is going to be my personal journal with heavy emphasis on poetry, my personal religion & spiritual beliefs. I found a Wicca Sticker book at the local Books A Million store and it is pretty cool, honestly. I'm going back next paycheck for the Victoria Sticker book and maybe another one of these if they still have them because now I have stickers that have something to do with my personal religion and spiritual beliefs.

I was going to turn this into another writing bible but ehhhh.... I already have my "public work & bullet journal" for that... :D

As I've said before, my planner season starts now. I ordered by next bullet journal and my work planner, and they both showed up this weekend - unexpectedly early! But earlier is always better!

This year's bullet journal is my old faithful Leuchttrum1917 A5 dot grid in port red:

Some day, when I get the space and time, I plan to have all my bujos in order on a bookshelf, and I choose each year's color based on whether it would look good next to last year's color on this hypothetical shelf. *goals*

Last year I did a year-long theme of video games for each spread, and I really enjoyed that. This year the theme will be children's books.

My EC work planner and stickers it comes with:

This planner holds to-do lists, notes from meetings, notes to myself, and a log of expenses that I need to turn in to be reimbursed. I use the stickers to tell me where I need to be and what time. I put stickers on both the monthly layout and on the week in question. I live in fear of not being where I'm supposed to be at the correct time and this system alleviates most of that stress. I also put stickers on the calendar for holidays when we'll be closed and to designate my vacation time, as well as random things like doctor's appointments that will take me out of the office. Oh! And birthdays for my co-workers so I can remember to wish them a good day, not that we are the type of office that gives out birthday gifts. This one doesn't start until August, but I have events scheduled beyond then that I can start putting in it.

MINE. THEY ARE MINE.

Or they will be in a reasonable amount of shipping time. I was on a blank book buying diet, but apparently no kind of diet is for me. I can't take the risk of missing out on these.

Hello! So I recently discovered the concept of a commonplace book, got really excited about it because I haven't journaled by hand since high school and every previous attempt of mine at keeping a planner/bujo has failed, and have now ended up here looking for advice. I've watched a bunch of YouTube videos of people showing off their own commonplace books to get ideas on content, setup, etc. and am curious what kind of supplies you guys would recommend for somewhat casual journaling? There's a lot more to consider about notebooks/pens than I realized before looking into the subject and I have basically no knowledge of paper types and fancy pens and whatnot.

For reference I've done a little browsing and I'm eyeing things like this Hobonichi Plain Notebook or this Leuchtturm1917 Hardcover (I'd probably want something medium size, with dot or grid paper), but I'd love to see what you guys prefer, or what pens you'd recommend, that kind of thing! Any advice you'd give for someone who's only previous notebook concern was whether the cover was cute or not lol.

(Any tips on commonplace books or journaling in general is welcome too! I love seeing how people prefer to set up their journals/how they like to decorate/etc.)

My husband bought me a Karst Stone Paper Notebook to try out because they were on super sale at HomeGoods (I believe they were priced at $6.99), and y'all this notebook is the most bizarre notebook I have ever encountered.

First, it is heavy. Really, really heavy. Astonishingly heavy. Prohibitively heavy. And I have never said that about any notebook I have ever used before no matter the size (I love A4!), the cover material, or the page count.

Second, it is really, really difficult to write in with almost every writing instrument known to man. Which basically defeats the purpose of a notebook. LOL You absolutely must use a pencil board with this notebook or you will mess up the next page with indentations; that's not a big deal because lots of fountain pen friendly paper is like that (Tomoe River, Cosmo Air Light). However, all pens and pencils, even when being careful to use as little pressure as possible, more gouge a line in the page than lay down ink. It's really hard to describe. The tip of the writing instrument presses into the paper too much; you absolutely cannot use the back of the page, not because of show through or bleed through (bleed through is actually physically impossible on this paper) but because of the indentation of the writing instrument.

The only writing instruments that work well on this paper are markers; ink looks really pretty on the page and markers don't leave an indentation. I think pretty much any kind of marker would be alright (although not fineliners with sharp tips). I tested Papermate Flairs and they worked really well.

This is the most useless notebook. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it. I guess just leave it at my desk and take reading notes in it with markers. :(

Complete anti-rec.

This is the month that I get ready for next year with my planners.

  1. Work Planner - I have once again gone with my faithful EC Life Planner. I don't do as much stickers as some people do with these planners, but I was running out of the set that I bought in 2020, so I also got the monthly sticker book. I've already go this one set up and ready to go with events for work starting in July.

  2. Bullet Journal - I'm still using the Leuchtturm1917, but I'm planning something a bit different for the yearly/seasonal/monthly spreads. In the past, I've done monthly spreads vaguely connected to the month in question, and whatever I took a fancy to. For this upcoming year, I'm going to try to do one overall theme for all the spreads. I've seen some really lovely ones online, including Middle Earth, Beatles lyrics, and so on. My plan is to feature all the video games that I've spent a significant amount of time playing. I've whittled the list down to 12, and it includes not just console games, but the arcade games I started out on, like Ms. Pacman and Centipede. For the seasonal spreads, I'm going to feature one region of Hyrule from Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Summer will feature a place in Gerudo, autumn in Akkala, winter in Hebra, and I haven't made a decision for spring.

  3. Moving Journal - I've decided to make a major change in my life and move across the country. However, I can't do that until several things not in my control fall into place, so it will probably happen summer of 2024. Also, there's a lot of moving (heh) parts that I have to account for. I purchased a composition book, a Decomposition book actually because it's the only one I could find that was college-ruled. This is not the time of year to try to find school supplies in North America. I'm using it for to-do lists, mind maps, gluing documents into it, goals, and timelines. I set it up with a table of contents and I'm numbering the pages. Finally, I got a set of Papermate Flairs just for this purpose, because I am extra like that.

That's were my planner situation is at the moment!

Dad's binder for my prose is full, so I'm making him a new one for Father's Day.  I scanned images of the cover and spine posted here.  He likes to keep copies of things I've written, which is actually a small bookcase in the living room now, not sure this new one will even fit.  I still need to print off at least one new thing to put in it.

I really like using 3-ring binders for journal/planner work.  The sleeve lets me insert a cover and spine.  The D-rings hold a lot of pages.  I use top-loading archival page protectors to hold the pages so they stay nice.  It's easy to pop open the rings and add or move things.  Scrapbooks typically use posts or straps that may look a little nicer, but are much more fussy to change.  So I prefer this style for things I'll be adding to over time.  The 1 1/2" size holds a considerable amount of pages without feeling too clunky to handle easily.  I can go up to 2" for a bigger project but it's not as wieldy.
