I did have a diary, which I used as a journal, from 1995, but I got rid of that one. I still have journals, mostly in spare school exercise books, from around the turn of the millennium. And I started using LJ in 2005, and that's all still in existence, albeit on DW now.

I created this journal in 2009. I have at least some LJ stuff archived back to 2001. My oldest paper history is two spiralbound notebook journals that go back to probably 1993 or 1994? But most of the stuff from before 2010 I destroyed. I have a box of bullet journals and other little journal notebooks going back that far though.

I'm similar to you in that I don't usually differentiate a whole lot between journal and planner, though I just got a new one (again, lol) that's probably more planner than journal.

My first paper journal/diary is from 1999 and I still have every one I wrote/used since then, I went through phases of writing a whole A5 page about my day, these days I just have a bullet journal

Online journal, I joined LJ in 2004 and all the posts from there are stored here on DW now

I started my lj in 2004, and my first paper journals go back to childhood, I think the earliest is about 1990, maybe a bit earlier.

I don't think i have any of the little black (note)books i used in high school—there might be one hard-bound notebook around—but i have everything from 2015 onwards.

You're welcome! I'm so glad you're enjoying it.

I enjoyed reading what you have to say about your journaling practice before and after a huge life-changing event.

Wrote about it here, but tldr: my digital journals are at least as far back as 2001.

I started my Livejournal in 2003, and until I did a closet purge, I had teacher planners going back to 2002. I started bullet journaling in 2017, and have all of those still. I started my current job in 2020, and have planners back to that date.

I think my wedding planner is in the box with my wedding dress, and that dates back to 1993.

The digital journal wins for continuous use, for sure. As I imported all of my LJ over to Dreamwidth, I still have all of that.

I don't remember keeping specific planners or journals as a kid. I was pretty terrible about keeping up with assignments and things in school, and I wish I would have discovered 'planning' earlier in life. I don't think I really did the diary thing either. I remember that I kept a dream journal for a while, where I wrote down my dreams every time I woke up and could remember them.

My first journal/diary goes back to second grade, so...+squints+ late 1980s? Fuck if I know where that diary is though. Probably in the boxes of stuff my mother brought me that languish in the basement.

Bullet journaling apparently goes back to 2017 for me.

My DW (formerly LJ) goes back to 2003, a fact that kind of boggles me some times. I don't tend to keep old organizers, but I do have fic notes and whatnot going back to about the same time, and I have older notebooks of writing (fiction) going back to about 1995. (Most of my Jr. High and High School writing has been purged over the years, but a few things have stuck around. Once I pluck out any ideas I want to keep, I'll probably get rid of the rest...)

For me, it's community! I've made so many friends over the years through LJ/DW, quite a few of whom I still have (though not always keeping in touch via journal anymore) - I never would have stuck with it otherwise.

Hard same.

For me, DW isn't really even about fandom anymore but the longterm friendships I've made through using it.

Hmm bullet journalling attempts go back to about 2016 I think.
Diaries since I was a teen in the 90s
Online journalling since *checks LJ* 2004
