Day 8 Question:

Do you have any journal/planning role models? This might be celebrity diarists, famous journalers of yore, or people who are documenting their fabulous layouts on Instagram.

If you post elsewhere, drop us a link in the comments.

I love the handwriting of the person who does the JetPens videos.

I'm definitely inspired by "diarists (and letter writers) of yore" although not all of them are that "yore" XD I love Madeleine L'Engle's Crosswick Journals, Anais Nin's thoughts, and further back to Mary Shelley and many others.

In a more modern sense, I really love the Yarn Harlot's blog.

My own journaling is never quite up to parr but I also remind myself that these journals and letters are often edited before they're published to the public (to which extent I may not know) and that once paper was expensive and the act of writing more time consuming so maybe you waited until you had something Profound rather than just dashing stream of consciousness whatever and hitting "post."

I have a tendency towards perfectionism, so i really appreciate seeing people experiment in their journals. It reminds me not to try keeping a system that stopped working and to try meeting myself where i am, what i need in the moment. Several people come to mind in that sense: Sarah Gottesdiener, Xandra The Witch, and Alaina of The Organized Money (who has now been mentioned in 3/8 of my comments 😅).

Actually, now might be a good time to check out her channel. She started coming out with daily videos that go in-depth into her planning system. Don't know about you, but i find those kinds of videos endlessly fascinating.

I used to try and emulate people like Caitlin DaSilva, Boho Berry, AmandaRachLee and Cindy Guentert-Baldo but used to get super frustrated and upset that I couldn't make it work. I'm not artistic and I was trying to copy their style as well, which didn't feel like it was organising me.

So I took the time to work out what I liked about their styles, compared that with what I needed to organise me and figure it out slowly.

I will still watch Cindy's videos though - so much love!

I mostly use Pinterest for ideas for my bullet journal spreads.

I have discovered a YouTuber who makes amazing Lord of the Rings/Hobbit/Middle Earth themed bullet journal spreads: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCod_soVUnuMEVZZzpU54hfw

She does water color paintings of Middle Earth scenes.

When I first started bullet journaling, I watched a lot of YouTube to get an understanding of how the system works, but over the years, I've adapted things for my own use. There are several artistic ones I watch because I enjoy their aesthetics but not because I'm going to use their ideas.
