I did some work to set up my reading journal and posted about it here. I am very behind in my planner stuff because migrating some of my planners to Kokuyo ring binders isn't working as well as I'd hoped and I'm probably going to pick something else up and use it instead.

Over at my journal, I wrote a post describing how I've kept up with bullet journalling since February 2022. I'd never managed to make it work for myself for more than 3 months before, and I think mostly it was psychological stuff holding me back -- maybe other people will find something helpful in that post, too! I also mentioned a couple of things I haven't figured out yet, like how to actually do my monthly tasks rather than migrate them forever 😅

(And while I was adding links to that post, I came across my reply to the Journal Snowflake event we did in the second half of Feb 2022! I wonder if there'd be some appetite to do it again in 2025?)

Hobonichi will replace defective 2025 planners

From the above video's description (posted by [youtube.com profile] fudefan): The paper in Hobonichi's 2025 5-year planners causes ink to feather and bleed. Hobonichi has acknowledged the problem and worked with Sanzen to manufacture a version of Tomoe River with adjusted ink absorbency. Affested customers will receive free replacements.

I don't know much more about it except: Hobonichi, 5-year planners, some of them have bleeding/feathering issues, you can get a free replacement, click the link to find out more.

Hello, everyone! The TLDR before I start: I would like recommendations for an undated planner with daily pages. I'm not familiar with a lot of planner brands and types, and I'm not entirely satisifed with the CleverFox planner I'm trying at the moment.

More details about the situation along with photos of what I'm using at the moment below:

I welcome any recommendations you may have! :D

So, my partner ordered a Hemlock & Oak planner and asked me if I wanted anything while he was ordering, and I had not decided what I was going to do yet for next year and saw the "traveler's notebook"-sized journals, thought they were pretty, and decided I could use one as a planner. And then I got it in my hands and realized...

It's enormous. (Photos under cut) )

[community profile] goals_on_dw has a series of resource posts about bullet journals:

Bullet Journal Printables by Topic -- things you can print out and add to your journal or planner, on a wide variety of subjects. Most of these are layouts for specific types of pages, but there are some versatile ones too.

Bullet Journal Printables by Page Size -- a huge collection of links to things you can print out, designed for a wide range of journal sizes. Some friends have mentioned not being able to find printables for their preferred journal size, so I hunted down everything I could find from large to tiny. Some of these are layouts for specific types of pages, but there's also a very large amount of material for printing dot grids, graph paper, lined paper, and other background material.

Bullet Journal Ideas -- things for you to draw in your own journal.  Some of these are layouts for specific types of pages, others more general, plus a section on how to draw doodles / icons.  They cover a variety of topics, but not all the same ones as the topical post has.

For more, see the Masterlist of Printables which has things like whole calendars or planners that you can run off at home.

Would anyone here like to post about bullet journals at [community profile] goals_on_dw some time?  Links are useful, but an actual post by someone familiar with the craft would be better.  If you've already got a post on that topic, crossposting is welcome.

Could we get a style: bullet journal tag?  I've seen people talk about them here, I think this may be where I originally found the style, so I was surprised there wasn't a tag for that already.

Techo Kaigi is a Japanese term that refers to an evaluation of your current planner set up. Since the new planner season is about to begin, let's host one here.

What's working for you? What's not working for you? How will you be planning and journaling in 2025?

[community profile] goals_on_dw is a new community for people who like goals and goal setting. A key focus will be New Year's resolutions, that being among the most popular contexts for such activities. Although the most common time is January 1, "new year" can also refer to other calendars or cultures, whatever works for you. Alternatively, just pick a time that works for you and go for it. You can introduce yourself or make new friends here.

We will talk about different goal systems, pros and cons of resolutions, arts and crafts for tracking goals, human psychology, and more. You can share your resolutions or other goals.  If you like agenda journals, bullet journals, habit trackers, planners, organizers, or other ways of using a journal to record your goals, then this community may appeal to you.  It also fits if you have "do X journal on Y schedule or amount" type goals.  There will be check-in posts in January for folks to talk about their accomplishments.

The Welcome post gathers links to the masterlists and other anchor posts.  For more details on discussion topics, see "Things You Can Talk About Here."

Hi, all.  A couple of years ago or 10, I tried a BuJo because my BFF swore by hers and blah blah blah -- I hated it.  I'm not artistic (she is) and doing any kind of even basic layout was stressful and time consuming.  I very quickly abandoned it.  Then a few years after that, I got a Panda Planner after it being recommended in my online store group (I had an online store at the time).  Big monstrous thing, too much detail and needs, and it overwhelmed me.

Cue me tripping into this group and actively reading through all the wonderful advice and planners and designs and .. and ... and....

I've bought the Jibun Techo (Life, Diary, & Idea) for 2025.  I'm easing my way into it to end 2024, but I'm struggling with the translations (or lack thereof) and also all the many, many pages that don't interest me and I don't want, like the maps specifically.  I'm almost to the point I'm going to cut them out.  I know I read someone's post (or comment) that they were able to get the same or close grid paper and they glued over those pages -- I would love someone to pipe in if it was you (of course I can't FIND it now that I need it).  Or if anyone has any links to even amazon where I can get "fill in" pages of similar type/size/grid pattern.  I did get some of the translation pages available on jetpens, but they don't seem to have all the translations and I'm curious as to what is actually on the days and specifically the anniversary pages.  I really don't want to learn Japanese to enjoy this planner FULLY :(.

Anyway, I'm looking for advice/recommendations/etc. on how to help keep me on journaling without me wanting to kick it to the curb before MLK day.

Thanks in advance!

Everyone, it's come to my attention that the controversy involving Goulet Pens might not be as widely known as I believed.

I'm posting a link to the megathread on the fountain pens subreddit so that you can read it for yourself, but the gist of the story is that the Goulets posted a video about how they are part of the core team founding a church that's an offshoot of their current church. Then a podcast featuring the pastor of this new church emerged in which he says some truly vile things about LGBTQ people; internet sleuths also uncovered a contract that church members must sign which contains the typical hard right, evangelical attitudes toward women. The Goulets posted an incredibly mealy-mouthed apology that doesn't involve them leaving the church.

I will no longer be purchasing from them, and I thought you all should be able to make an informed decision.

[the "we" pronoun is getting used here cause we're plural, sorry for the plausible confusion]

We bought & started a journal on the 21st of September this year. The idea of a diary/journal/scrapbook enticed us for a while now, but we gave in & bought a small spiral notebook, a fountain pen and some stickers to decorate.

We've mostly used it to just, dot down thoughts we've had. Nothing expansive or anything, but we figured being able to see how we change over time could help our mental health. We're not sure how to decorate it further without regretting it, but the small start we have is fun so far. We can draw reasonably well, but we don't know how to doodle small yet.

We've also had an idea for making a scrapbook to hold pages of our blorbos (because... why not?). But we genuinely don't know how to start on that in a way that won't overwell us. Maybe we should focus on getting into journaling first before we do any bigger project(? we don't know at what point journaling differs from scrapbooks).

Anyway, have a wonderful day!

Hi everyone! I got into physical journaling (and stickers!) pretty recently and am very excited to find this comm!

I like using my journal to document what I'm reading/watching and to log my language learning when I encounter new vocabulary, but I'm often too lazy to sit down and update it...

Here are some assorted pages from my journal (currently using a Laconic planner) so far! Images are mostly hotlinked from my Bluesky account because I'm lazy, so I hope they display fine!

I watched a planner video from this person: https://www.youtube.com/user/jashiicorrin who uses washi tape paper to print her headers and stickers for her bullet journal.

I decided to try it for my October spread. Here is the washi paper I got: washi sticker paper. I didn't want to get too much of it in case I didn't like it.

My theme for October is Where the Wild Things Are. I found a font that looked similar to the title font from the book, and created this page with all the titles and headers I will need for October. The paper is quite transparent, and can be written on/colored on. Here is the page I made:

I created a 5mmx5mm grid that is 26 x 37 squares, which is the same size as the pages in my journal. This helped me know if the labels and stickers I made would fit correctly in my weekly layouts (I turned the layer with the grid off when I printed). I printed on the A4 paper, and then cut them out with scissors. Although I'm sure this could be done on a Cricuit or something.

Here is my spread. I experimented with coloring the labels, but I think I'll leave them transparent next time.

This is definitely a learning curve for me, but I'm pretty happy with the results so far.

Oh, and someone asked me last time how I determine what book to do what month - for October, I had to choose Max in his wolf costume!

Hello! ヾ(´・ω・`)

I'm not new to journaling but I AM new to doing it for planning related purposes. I don't really know what I'm entirely doing here yet, other than wanting to try analog again after doing stuff digitally because being able to decorate the pages and cover sounds really fun (you can certainly do that digitally but having a decorated journal in physical space sounds..... Right).

I've always wondered if there's journals/planners/whatever built for people like me who are more visual and if they are set up similarly, but honestly I'd be interested in anything cuz I'm still experimenting and figuring out what works best for me.

Basically I'm asking for the other visual people here: What kind of planners or journals do you use? Did you have to modify anything to make it more enjoyable or readable for you? What's your journal set up for weekly plans and monthly plans? I'm interested in anything and everything you've done so far!

Here's a few more spreads from my book theme for 2024-205 in my bullet journal.

First is July, featuring My Father's Dragon. If you saw the movie, ignore it. The book is much more charming and clever.

Next up is August with The Leafmen and the Brave Good Bugs, also much better than the movie.

And finally, my spread to welcome Autumn, with a quote:

I already have my winter art in mind.

An example is the Hobonichi 5-year techo.

Have you used one? What does a random page look like? What have you found it most helpful for over a page-a-day diary or undated diary?

I am considering getting one. I'm just afraid of, you know, using it for 2 weeks and forgetting about it. I think it would be helpful for tracking long term goals and doing bite-sized journaling.
